565+ at Visual Centre of Contemporary Arts and The George Bernard Shaw Theatre Carlow July 16th 2011

Roisin McGarr, Artistic Director of The George Bernard Shaw Theatre in Carlow invited 565+ to Carlow July 16th and the evening turned out to a very memorable one for us with great attendance and a wonderful post show hosted by Local Councilor Walter Lacey. The marketing team at GBS, special thank to Miriam Roche, garnered great publicity for the event including a fantastic write up in The Irish Times by Syliva Thompson 'Love of Theatre Saved My Life'.

GBS is one of the most beautiful theatres in the country and the technical team headed by Joe Flavin made us very at ease. Special thanks to our own technical manager Aidan Crowe who as well as making the whole thing happen does a great line in pre-show reassurance giving myself and Marie the benefit of his own performance experience.
565+ is a very candid show, Marie talks about her difficult marriage and her own battles with depression in a way that, as we've learned from our post show discussions can unsettle some audience members. However, the show often prompts people to approach us afterwards to share their own stories of difficult times and commend Marie on her honesty and bravery. Last night a member of a homeless group who attended spoke out at the post show talk to say it was his first time at the theatre and that he had been very moved by the experience. We, in turn, were very moved by his words and they will stay with us for a long time.
